A look back: Big Boy living in Jones Park
The City of Gulfport use to have a mascot of their own, that being a tabby cat named Big Boy!
According to old Sun Herald articles, the story is that “Big Boy” was forced into a tree during Hurricane Georges in 1998.
Big Boy made that tree his permanent home.
Those interviewed said Big Boy had never been seen leaving the tree, even in 20 degree weather!
Another article on Big Cat says he received hundreds of visitors and even received calls from people as far away as Minnesota, Cincinnati, and Houston.
Big Boy’s tree habitation came to an end after a “catnapping.”
Callers reached out to the Sun Herald, with the main theory being that someone on the coast took Big Boy to their home and let him live inside.
