A Better Facility for Ward 6 Firemen in Biloxi
One councilman is taking to Facebook to stick up for the firefighters in Ward 6 who are currently operating out of a failing trailer.
Kenny Glavan posted photos of the trailer on Popp’s Ferry Road that sits on cinder blocks and is full of mold, mildew, leaks and has many other structure issues.
Glavan tells News 25 he is working closely with Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich and Fire Chief Joe Boney to find the funds for a better home for these firefighters who have had to work out of this temporary facility since before Hurricane Katrina.
At least three firemen spend 24 hours in the trailer every week. Chief Boney tells News 25 the morale for those firefighters is negatively affected, but it’s something Mayor Gilich has promised to work on. “He assured me that he was committed to correcting that problem. He feels the same way. You know, the people out there as well as the employees deserve better and so I truly believe he’s committed to fixing it but it takes time and money is the problem every time.”
Chief Boney also tells News 25 the city wants to build a fire training facility out there as well as a better station for the firefighters. The total coast would be around $2.5 million.
