Aldi grocery store officially opens in Ocean Springs

After a four year wait, the Aldi grocery store in Ocean Springs is finally open.

The stormy weather didn’t keep people from heading to the grand opening of the Aldi grocery store. Customer Traceyann Vernon said, “I got here at like 5 this morning.”

Early birds like Traceyann were up bright and early eager to see everything the store has to offer. “I am interested to see the prices of the stuff. I heard it’s really cheap. So, I came to see most of the food and stuff.”

To celebrate the grand opening, the first 100 customers received a gift bag filled with samples of Aldi fan favorite products, as well as a gift card as part of the Aldi Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program. Director of Operations Phil Rhodes said, “We really kind of wanted to drum up the support here in the local community and give customers a lot of gift cards and a lot of special deals.”

Aldi grocery stores are looking to expand all across the south. So far, they have opened over 150 stores this year with 20 in Mississippi, Louisiana, the Florida panhandle, and Alabama. “Gulfport, Biloxi, and Ocean Springs are kind of big markets for us. So, we wanted to get Ocean Springs open.”

The store is your one stop shop for everything you could imagine. “We have a great selection of produce, a great selection of fresh meat items. So, we are excited to have everyone check that out. Great bread selection. We have an Aldi finds area of the store. That area is special products that they bring in every single week, customers get a great deal on that.”
