Mississippi Walk for Diabetes
Community members showed up to Jones Park on Saturday to raise awareness for a medical condition that affects millions of people and families in the U.S.
Teams of runners and walkers at the ‘Mississippi Walk for Diabetes’ had the option to do the 5K route or the one mile fun run throughout the morning.
Proceeds raised help the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi’s efforts to provide camps for kids with diabetes and educational resources for parents.
Siobhan Bailey’s daughter, Georgia, has type one diabetes and she says the ultimate goal of the walk is to help find a cure. “It’s to spread education to the community. We see everybody coming together here as a support for each other and for finding a cure for this disease.”
The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi will host five more walks across the state this year.
