Third annual Duck Derby
They’ve moved out of the bath tub and into a bigger playing field, these rubber ducks are ready to race to the finish line.
Thousands of ducks will be dumped into the lazy river at the Gulf Islands Water Park this weekend for the third annual Duck Derby, competing for a chance to take home the first place $1,000 prize.
It’s all to support the South Mississippi Soccer Club and those kids on the Coast who otherwise can’t afford to participate in the sport. Club Media Director Russ Carothers said, “Competitive-use sports are a whole other ball game. It can be extraordinarily expensive depending on the level that you want to compete. So, in effort to bring soccer to more people that’s what inspired us to come up with the Duck Derby.”
If you’d like to help support the Soccer Club, you can enter a duck into the race for just $5. Head to Gulf Islands Water Park this Sunday, the race begins around 6 p.m.
