City of Ocean Springs proposing new budget and tax increase

The City of Ocean Springs is proposing a new budget and tax increase.

The city is proposing a 2 mill increase in their ad valorem tax millage rate. Citizens will pay more in ad valorem taxes on their home, automobile tag, utilities, business fixtures and equipment, and rental property.

The two-mill tax increase would equate to an additional $20 per year per $100,000 of assessed property value.

Disgruntled citizens took to Facebook, concerned about paying more during financially stressful times due to inflation.

However, the city stresses the costs that have increased for their citizens have also increased for them to operate.

Citizens may voice their concerns at a public hearing next Monday at 6 p.m.
