South Mississippian named World Food Champion and wins $100K grand prize

Did Gulfport Chef Jacqueline “Jackie” Seavy walk away with the title of “World Food Champion” and a $100,000 dollar grand prize in this weekend’s final round Cnbc’s World Food Championship?

We are pleased to announce yes, she did! Chef Seavey, who is the executive sous chef at Gulfport’s Island View Casino, represented our area, and state well, in Saturday’s nationally televised competition, edging out the two other finalists, to capture the title of 7th annual food champion.

Along with her $100,000 grand prize winnings, Seavey’s winning dish “kumquat duck & cornbread waffle canapes,” will be featured at Antoine’s Restaurant In New Orleans.

As seen in Saturday’s one-hour special, “The Final Table: New Orleans,” Seavey was one of 10 category champions who emerged from WFC’s main event in 2018. After three intense rounds of competition, Chef Seavey proved to be the best at mastering creole-inspired cuisine, while impressing regional restauranteurs, including Dickie Brennan and Chef Rich Lee At Antoine’s.

The search for the next World Food Champion will start all over again in October in Dallas.
