Prevention tips from Harrison County Mosquito Control

This rainy weather leaves behind more puddles and more opportunities for female mosquitos to lay their eggs.

They lay their eggs in stagnant water and only need half an inch to survive. Once mosquitoes lay their eggs it takes between eight to 10 days for them to hatch.

It’ll only be matter of time before you’ll need to be vigilant to prevent yourself from their pesky bites.

Harrison County Mosquito Control Director Gene Fayard talks about the importance of monitoring stagnant water in your yard now. “Tip any water, look for standing water in your yard. If you have any ditches or things that don’t drain you can call us and we’ll come out and treat them. If we can treat them in the larvae stage, that’s the most effective and the cheapest, you can kill more in the ditch than you do in the air.”

If you’re in Harrison County and you have stagnant water on your property, call Harrison County Mosquito Control at 228-896-0409.

When you see a fogging truck, step inside for a couple of minutes until they pass.
