Gautier High honors Stars of the Week at inaugural awards ceremony
Gautier High School held its inaugural awards ceremony today for the Stars Program.
That program is designed to honor deserving Gautier High students and faculty who best exhibit the selected character words of the week.
Each week, every GHS faculty member nominates their choice of deserving students and faculty members.
Additionally, GHS Key Club students may nominate their choice of deserving GHS faculty members to receive the Star recognition.
Each GHS Star received a personalized award certificate and the opportunity to be included in a group photograph that is placed on a poster for public viewing in the cafeteria. GHS Stars Program Faculty Coordinator Dawn Smith said, “A program like Stars of the Week helps the morale of a school because teachers and students start seeing ‘hey, it can be anybody, it can be me.’ So, they get the idea in their head that they want to come everyday and they want to be the best that they can be and they want to help people.”
Kiwanis Club of Gautier/ Ocean Springs President Dave Meisburger said, “Elementary and middle schools have a lot of things. Basically, if you’re a high school student and struggling to pull a C, you know, because you have got to work you know to help your family get food on the table. If you’re not just an A or B student or if you are not a top athlete, you don’t get much in the way of recognition. So, that’s why this program recognizes character.”
Stars students are also eligible to receive a monthly Stars $50 gift card provided by the Kiwanis Club of Gautier/ Ocean Springs.
