Today is ‘World Lung Cancer Day’

The first of August is World Lung Cancer Day.

With lung cancer being the third most common cancer in the United States, this is an initiative to urge everyone to learn about risk factors for disease and highlighting the importance of early detection through lung cancer screenings.

More people in the United States die from lung cancer than any other type of cancer, which is why it is important to talk about it. Pulmonary Critical Care Specialist Bobby Tullos said, “We need to identify patients early, and we do so with lung cancer screening. If I can find a nodule that’s accessible and biopsyable and we do identify that this is a stage one disease, our survivability and rates of possible cure go up exponentially.”
