‘Boatin’ for Boobies’ event kicks off tribute for breast cancer survivors
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but at Captain Al’s Steak and Seafood in Gulfport, it came a little early and started on the water.
Pink flooded Bayou Bernard for this weekend’s inaugural Boatin’ for Boobies, a boat parade and breast cancer fundraiser. More than 150 boats participated.
Breast cancer survivors got to ride in the parade on a special boat dedicated specifically for them.
Survivors, family, and friends were decked out in pink to enjoy live music, food, drinks, and raffle drawings.
Due to the turnout of the event, Captain Al says he thinks next year will be even bigger and better, especially when you have the right people passionate about a great cause. “I’m more excited than the guy that will hit the lottery tonight in the mega bucks or whatever it is. That’s how excited I am, but I want to say something my daughter, she is the bomb, she has put this thing together. She has done this whole thing. She and John Carter, they’re the best.”
All proceeds from the event go to the Memorial Hospital Foundation to help not only breast cancer survivors, but also cancer patients on the Gulf Coast.
