Jeffrey Hulum III wins special election for Mississippi House Representative for District 119

People living in District 119 in Gulfport headed out to the polls today for a special election.

Jeffrey Hulum III defeated Gary Fredericks with 67 percent of the vote. Hulum will be filling the seat of Representative Sonya Williams Barnes. She resigned in May to take a new job.

News 25 caught up with Hullum. Here’s what he had to say. “I’m here to represent the people, not just the ones who voted for me, not just the ones who look like me, not just the ones who come from the community I come from. Everybody in District 119 will be represented. Everybody in the City of Gulfport, on the Gulf Coast, in the entire state of Mississippi will be represented with integrity and honesty. I can’t thank everybody enough for coming together and people getting out and voting.”

Hulum tells News 25 he will continue his volunteer work in Gulfport and community food drops will resume with ‘Extend a Hand, Help a Friend’ now that the campaign is over.
