Walter Anderson Museum of Art hosting ‘Shape your Ideas’ art camp

There’s an art camp happening in Ocean Springs.

This summer, the Walter Anderson Museum of Art is determined to give children opportunities to grow their creative side and expand their love for art.

One way kids are able to do so is by signing up and attending their summer camps. The camp that is currently going on focuses on three-dimensional art. Walter Anderson Museum of Art Director of Education Tony Difatta said, “It’s called shape your ideas and we always take the kids over to the museum to show them the work that Walter did, and then we come back over here and we just spend the week making things out of clay, out of found objects, sticks, papier-mâché, so they get sort of a feel of what it would be like to be an artist in 3D mediums.”

The campers attending this specific camp range from ages eight to 12. Difatta states that it is very important for children to be introduced to art at an early age. “Art is influenced by literature, history, and by culture and math and science even, especially science, and I try to show the kids how that all those things are connected and they’ll be better at whatever they decide to do if they learn about art and learn about how it is connected to everything else.”
