Update on Main Street Crossing repairs in the City of Biloxi
Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich has been looking to address necessary work on the Main Street Crossing and today some progress has been updated.
In today’s city hall meeting, the design has been approved by CSX and MDOT. The council is hoping to accept and choose the best bid for work to get started and be approved by council and the contractor.
If you remember, in 2017, on Main Street railroad crossing, four people died in a fatal bus accident with over a dozen people injured. Biloxi City Council Member for Ward 2 Felix Gines said, “As you know, there have been a lot of accidents on the Main Street railroad crossing, a lot of incidents. So, this gives us an opportunity to alleviate those accidents. It gives us an opportunity to be a little bit more safer and with an 80/20 match grant, it makes it very easy for us to fix these issues.”
Each time small repairs have been made over the years, construction raises the tracks, but now, the tracks can be grated out, creating a smoother transition from one side to the other.
