Ole Miss Head Baseball Coach Mike Bianco named National Coach of the Year

Coach of the Year awards can sometimes be subjective, but in the case of Ole Miss skipper Mike Bianco, who nearly watched the entire NCAA Tournament from the seat of his couch, there was really only one clear option.

Today, Bianco named National Coach of the Year courtesy of Collegiate Baseball, fresh off leading his school to their first-ever College World Series crown.

It’s his second time in three years to win the award, also taking home the honors following the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

From last team in to last team out, Ole Miss was a near-perfect 10-1 during the NCAA Tournament, having advanced out of the Coral Gable Regional and the Hattiesburg Super Regional without a single loss.

Dating back to May 16th, Ole Miss is 18-4 overall, battling back from a 7-14 start in league play to become the ninth national champion since 2009 to come out of the SEC, including Mississippi State last year.

In other baseball news, Southern Miss ace of the staff, Tanner Hall is an All-American. He continues to roll in the post-season accolades, now a first-team All-American courtesy of Baseball America.

Add that to his trophy case that already includes ABCA and Rawlings, Collegiate Baseball, D1 Baseball, and the NCBWA.

Not to mention, the sophomore is also this year’s Ferris Trophy winner and the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year with a 2.81 ERA across 109 innings.
