Results from the 1st Preliminary for Miss Mississippi

Thirty-one candidates from all over the state resume competition tonight for the title of Miss Mississippi and the opportunity to represent the state and compete at Miss America in December.

One of top winners in the 1st preliminary Wednesday night was Ole Miss student Abigail Church, Miss University, who won talent.

Southern Miss student Karsyn Ulmer, Miss Jones County, was the red-carpet evening wear winner.

Preliminary competition resumes Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m. The finals will be televised live statewide and will feature the top ten contestants on Saturday, June 25th at 8 p.m. Church said, “It is unreal, to say the least. I absolutely love to dance. It’s not just a passion for me, not just a hobby, it’s a way of life. It’s a way for me to express myself and just feel at home on stage. Winning a talent preliminary at Miss Mississippi is such an honor.”

Ulmer said, “I just felt so confident, you know? You put on a piece of clothing and sometimes you’re like ‘I don’t feel too good in this.’ But when I put the dress on, I felt so confident. It’s kind of like I felt a sense of peace.”

The new Miss Mississippi will represent the state at Miss America in December.
