College Baseball in Mississippi just means more: USM vs. Ole Miss in Hattiesburg Super Regional
It seems like just about every year at USM’s preseason press conference Head Coach Scott Berry fields a question about college baseball in the state of Mississippi in which he drives home the same point: the big three schools in the Magnolia State outdraw the big three schools in every other state.
The moment is right now for Southern Miss to put that ‘Pack the Pete Pride’ on full display when Ole Miss rolls into town for the first-ever Hattiesburg Super Regional.
Of course, the Oxford faithful will show up in droves as well, setting the stage for USM to break its own attendance record of 6,346 set earlier this year against Ole Miss.
Here’s Coach Berry once again after Monday’s regional title. “There’s no other state that loves baseball more than the state of Mississippi. I mean you can look at total attendance for all three schools in our state versus the big three schools of any other state and it’s not even close. This state is passionate about baseball. Ole Miss fans are passionate just like we are, just like Mississippi State. So, the atmosphere is going to be – I think like we just saw this weekend with the passionate LSU fans that were here as well. But the state of Mississippi, no doubt. I mean that will be national news and exposure for us.”
USM and Ole Miss lead things off at 3 p.m. Saturday for game one followed by game two at 3 p.m. Sunday and then TBD Monday for game three if necessary.
