Hurricane Season Prep: Have a plan of action if a storm threatens
Hurricane season is here and it’s never too soon to prepare.
If you plan on evacuating when bad weather strikes, be sure to check your car and fix anything that could hold you back.
It is important that your car is mechanically sound and it’s also vital to know your evacuation route and to have an alternate route knowing traffic and long lines will occur.
If you are new to the area, ask your neighbors how they prepare for hurricane season. MHP Trooper Cal Robertson said, “If you’re a veteran of hurricanes, you’ve been here a while. You’ve been through a few, maybe you have a friend that just moved here that’s not familiar with what to do, talk over with them and go over with them about some of the safety stuff. You can go on your local emergency operations center website and you can look on their flood maps and see you know what areas are most prone to flood.”
