Post Legislative Briefing in Biloxi

This morning, five Coast legislators joined together at the Golden Nugget in Biloxi to talk to South Mississippi business leaders about what went on during the 2019 Legislative Session.

Members of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce submitted questions for the legislators and some of the topics discussed were education, the teacher pay raise, the legalization of medical marijuana, and BP oil spill money.

Representative Sonya Williams-Barnes also spoke about the gender pay gap which was part of legislation that was brought up during the 2019 session, but ultimately did not pass. “I have had both Democratic and Republican support on the issue, both male and female. It is important that we pay women the same as a man would be paid for the same job. There are states across our nation that have already implemented laws as such. It’s time for Mississippi to get on board.”
