32nd annual Student Scholarship Golf Tournament
There is nothing like swinging for a good cause especially if it benefits a local student with the next level of their education. That is why the Gautier Vancleave Rotary Club will host the 32nd annual Student Scholarship Golf Tournament on Saturday.
There are still spots available for the four man scramble which tees off at 1 p.m. The proceeds from the tournament allow the club to give away 15 $1,000 scholarships to students. The selection process includes looking at the students’ ACT scores and GPA.
It’s all an effort to encourage the youth to stay focused and lend a helping hand in regards to education. Gautier Vancleave Rotary Scholarship Fund Chairman Judge Jason Thorton said, “We will have refreshments available and a lot of good food. The Shed is helping us out with some food. We always have hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausages.”
Scholarship Committee Vice Chair Rico Borrazzo said, “It is so important to see the individuals get that little bump of money to kind of get them in the mix of things. It gives them a feeling that they are not out there alone. There are other people out there to support their cause.”
According to Borrazzo, the Rotary Club has given out almost $700,000 in scholarships over the years.
