National Day of Prayer preparations in Gulfport
This Thursday, the public is invited to Harbor Market Pavilion in Jones Park to take part in National Day of Prayer.
Religious leaders from a handful of denominations will be taking part in the ceremony from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes will be on hand to read a proclamation.
This is the 68th year National Day of Prayer has been observed in the United States. This year, the theme of the day is ‘love one another.’ Event Organizer Connie Lillo-Thieman said, “President Harry Truman made it a national day of prayer for people to get together in our country and make it a point to pray, to pray over the seven influences of government, of family, of education, of arts and entertainment, over the church. So there are seven of them and we will still be doing that 68 years later.”
There are a number of events to rally South Mississippi’s prayer warriors on Thursday.
