Community Action Fun Day Celebration at the West Side Community Center in Gulfport
May is Community Action Month and each year Community Action of South Mississippi hosts celebrations in each of the counties they serve.
People were out at West Side Community Center for food, drinks, and treats. While some kids enjoyed face painting, seniors enjoyed some bingo.
Informational tables were also set up so guests could learn about the many services offered within the community.
Community Action of South Mississippi uses this month to share stories, promote their work, and emphasize the impact of helping low-income families achieve economic stability. Adult and Community Services Director Lee Ann Kendrick said, “We do this to bring attention to community action. We work with our community to solve the problems that the community identifies. So, this year we started paying water bills. We pay light bills. We help people when they are in a transition. We work with folks in case management. We help them reach the goals that they want in their own life. This is just our way of giving back once a year is to really feed, to have fun, let you know we are here.”
Community Action of South Mississippi will host a fun day tomorrow in Moss Point at the Sue Ellen Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also Friday at City Park in Lucedale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
