Mississippi 4th Congressional District candidates debate in Pass Christian
The Mississippi 4th Congressional District Election is nearing, the City of Pass Christian held a debate at their middle school to give each candidate a chance to speak about their campaign.
News 25 spoke with all eight attending candidates to get a brief understanding of the main points they wanted to get across during the debate.
Johnny Dupree said, “I’m here tonight because i want people to understand that that Mississippi can do better and there are certain things that could make our lives better in Mississippi better, and we have not had that, and that is healthcare, education, infrastructure, climate control, all those things that are important to every walking family Mississippi or those who are not walking.”
Carl Boyanton said, “I’d like to go to Congress and get rid of corruption, get rid of fraud, waste and abuse in our departments and stuff and bring America back to where we are the country people look up to.”
David Sellers said, “So one of the main points of looking at the proposing practical issues that can address the lives of Mississippi so we can finally get off the bottom of all the good lists and the top of the bad lists: issues with labor, education, and finally ending the war on drugs.”
Raymond Brooks said, “Mississippi is looking for somebody who can be a true representative of the people. I want to be that. That’s what I want in a representative and I’m doing everything I can do to be that person for the people here in Mississippi.”
Mike Ezell said, “As an elected congressman, I’ll be available. I’ll stand up. I’ll stand up. I’ll be available. I’ll be accountable like I’ve always been, you know. America first, South Mississippi I love, but you know I’ll stand up, be accountable, and I’ll be your man.”
Kidron Peterson said, “I believe that we need second term limits in Congress but term limits are something that is very hard to accomplish. So, in order to get term limits, I believe we should implement a tax of everything above salary for every member of Congress. That way, however long they are in Congress for, they get an extra tax on their income above salary.”
Clay Wagner said, “We are due for a change. We’ve got the same thing happening over and over and over again and I think it’s coming because we have the same politicians going over and over and over again, and what I bring different to the table that no one else is bringing is 40 years of business experience and no political motive. I’m not doing this for a career in Washington; I’m doing this to go up there and see if I can do a better job then what we currently have.”
Brice Wiggins said, “i think it’s clear that people want something to get done. They’re tired of the self-interest and the self-dealing in D.C and I think what was made clear today is that I’ve been doing it. I’ve been fighting in the court room; I’ve been fighting in Jackson. I fought for BP to come down here and I can fight up in DC and make something happen.”
The primary will occur on June 7th and the General Election will occur on November 8th.
