Local Girl Scout troop honors Sophia Myers at Trentwood Park

Ocean Springs Girl Scout Troop 3581 honored their former troop member Sophia Myers in a special way this evening.

Three years ago, the troop and other Girl Scouts dedicated a plaque and planted a tree in memory of Sophia at Trentwood Park.

Unfortunately, both came up missing. But that didn’t stop these girls from paying tribute to their friend, who passed away in 2017 at the age of seven after she was diagnosed with DIPG, a form of brain cancer.

Over the last two cookie seasons, the girls raised enough money to add a swing set, climbing structures, a bench, and more to the same park.

The Girl Scout troop and leaders in the Ocean Springs community cut the ribbon this evening, dedicating it all to Sophia. “This project actually means a lot to me, because when I was like 6 or 7 I was best friends with Sophia Myers. We were really good friends and honestly this makes me so happy to see that she is getting recognized and something for her.”

You can visit Trentwood Park and see all its new additions at 3105 Shadow Wood Drive in Ocean Springs.
