Prescribed burn today at Sandhill Crane Refuge
You may notice smoke over Jackson County today.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service is doing a prescribed burn at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge.
The burn site includes 180 acres, west of Gautier Vancleave Road near I-10.
Today’s burn helps restore the land to promote new growth of the native wet pine savannah, home to the critically endangered Sandhill cranes and dusky gopher frogs.
