2019 Mississippi Legislative Session

Mississippi legislators are beginning their three month session today with Republican Governor Phil Bryant proposing a teacher pay raise.

House and Senate leaders say they would also like to consider raises for state employees.

Lawmakers say changes to Mississippi’s criminal justice system will be among their top priorities for the legislative session beginning today.

Changes could include support for prisoners to re-enter society, ways to wipe out records of past convictions and sentencing relief for prisoners convicted before an earlier round of sentencing changes.
