Courthouse Road construction affecting local businesses

There’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel for the construction on Courthouse Road.

When many people hear the words Courthouse Road, one thing comes to mind: construction. Civil engineer Andy Pheland said, “The first day of the project was late June of 2017. It’s a working day project and the last working day ended in late June of 2018.”

As of now, they are over one hundred days behind schedule. No one is looking forward for this construction to be over more than the people who own businesses on Courthouse Road. S.F. Alman owner Ferrell Alman said, “Well, it definitely has affected us, but with anything with progress you gotta go through a little bit of pain there for a while and it has been painful here for over a year.”

Alman says he has been fortunate enough to have loyal customers who travel through the construction, but other businesses aren’t as lucky. “Gosh, I feel for them, you know the Bells down at Chillville, the new ice cream shop that’s in, and other businesses and restaurants, too, like if it is going to be a hassle to go up Courthouse Road and you’ve got a restaurant, well you could eat anywhere, so the restaurants are hurting.”

For many people who drive up and down Courthouse Road every single day, the orange cones are a symbol of stress and damage for this cars, but soon that might be changing. All of the potholes on Courthouse Road should be filled in by next Wednesday. “There won’t be all of the cones in the middle of the road protecting the manholes and potholes. It will be a lot smoother and a lot of easier to get in and out of businesses,” said Pheland.

Construction on Courthouse Road could be complete by February 2019, but an official date has not been set. “Elated, excited, it’s just going to be fantastic. You can’t come up with enough adjectives to express the joy we are going to have when this thing is finally through. It’s really going to be really, really nice,” said Alman.
