Tony Hughes hired as assistant football coach at Mississippi State

Back like he never left, Tony Hughes is the newest assistant football coach at Mississippi who didn’t have to look very far to replace Mark Hudspeth.

WLBT first reported the news which was confirmed by MSU Athletics this morning. Hughes was fired as the head coach at Jackson State in October, following a three-year run with the Tigers who went just 9-20 under his watch.

But the Bulldogs are getting a familiar face back in the building with Hughes having spent seven years in Starkville from2009 to 2015.

During that 2015 season, he was tabbed as one of the top ten recruiters in the nation by 24/7 Sports.
