Moss Point alum Devin Booker leads NBA-best Suns to playoffs

Before the start of the NBA season, Moss Point alum Devin Booker made a trip back to his old stomping grounds to unveil two refurbished basketball courts in the same community he still calls home.

Less than seven months later, he’s the best player on the best team in the league.

The Phoenix Suns have had the best regular season record wrapped up for almost three weeks, finishing with a mark of 64-18, good for the most wins in franchise history, surpassing the 62 of the 1993 NBA Finals team.

D-Book leading the charge offensively, finishing eighth in the league in scoring at 26.8 points per game.

At times, seemingly larger than life in the Valley, but deep down just a kid from Moss Point. Booker said, “I still have a lot of family down in Moss Point, so obviously they stay in contact. I’m sure they’re hoping New Orleans wins so they can be at some playoff games. But other than that, I just had my court renovation down in Moss Point so I try to stay in touch the most I can, try to be an inspiration for those kids that walked the same halls as me or the same kids on the Gulf Coast that thought the NBA was out of sight and now feel, living through me that it’s possible. So, I always try to stay in contact with Michigan, Mississippi, Kentucky, any place that I’ve crossed in my path. I want to be an inspiration for the next generation.”

Booker and the Suns await the winner of tomorrow’s game between the LA Clippers and the New Orleans Pelicans in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
