Voters Hit The Polls In Biloxi

For the first time in 22 years, Biloxi residents will elect a Mayor other than A.J. Holloway.
"Whenever you have any leadership for 20 years, I think it’s time for fresh thoughts and new thinking,” said Biloxi resident Susan Torgrimson.
While voters may have had some trouble picking a candidate, what they are sure of are the city’s needs that must be addressed, a common concern among many of the voters we spoke with is Biloxi’s infrastructure.
"I think that should be a major issue of any politician should be to take care of the safety of the people first and I think that’s an important factor here,” said Biloxi resident Joe McManus.
Some residents want more extracurricular programs for children.
"There’s nothing for kids to do here and that’s why they get into trouble. You need something for the kids,” said Barbara Tichy.
Others would like to see exactly how the city is spending Katrina money.
"I don’t know if that money is being put to the right use and I think that it would be a good idea to take that money and look at it real closely because that’s a lot of dollars,” said Gary Carpenter.
Regardless of which candidate is elected, Biloxi residents are hopeful the new mayor will address concerns.
