National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
It’s time to clean out your medicine cabinet.
Tomorrow is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. People can drop off their unwanted or expired medications at collection sites across the country, something the Biloxi Police Department is taking part in.
Residents of Biloxi are asked to bring in unused drugs to the Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. so they may be disposed of properly. No syringes will be accepted. Brian Dykes with Biloxi PD said, “They will throw them away or they will leave them sitting around where teenagers have unfortunately made a habit of raiding medicine cabinets. In order to keep that from happening we provide a centralized pick up point for that so the drugs don’t find a way into the hands of people who really don’t need them or shouldn’t have them.”
The DEA says over six million Americans misused prescription drugs in 2016, the majority of which came from home.
