Swinging for a Good Cause: Veterans for Veterans Golf Tournament Set for Nov. 10
They stood their ground on hostile territory to defend and preserve our freedom as Americans. Now their brothers- and sisters-in-arms are teaming up and asking the community to take a swing for them, and the children, they left behind serving our country.
The 2nd Annual Veterans for Veterans Golf Tournament is set for Sat., Nov. 10 at the Bayou Vista Golf Course on Washington Avenue in Gulfport. Its aim-to raise funds for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, an organization that was founded in 1980 after the daring attempt to rescue 53 American hostages in Iran, which ended in the tragic loss of eight servicemen who left behind 17 children. A battlefield promise was made to take care of these children and has become the noble mission of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. One of these noble men, and a survivor in another aircraft that day, was Mississippi Gulf Coast resident, Richard “Taco” Sanchez.
Sanchez is leading the charge, alongside other veterans and supporters, at this year’s tournament. Money raised will be used to educate the children of our fallen heroes, honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Anyone can participate or make donations to this non-profit and its cause. Tee Hole Sponsors can buy in for just $75. The tournament entry fee is $75 a person, and $300 a team. There is a maximum of 25 teams.
In addition, the group is seeking donations of items from local businesses that can be added to tournament gift bags, as well as any items that could be used as a prize for golf tournament participants.
