32nd annual Fall Muster
The 32nd annual Fall Muster Festival at Beauvoir took Biloxi back in time.
The sounds of the Civil War and of the 1800s rang through Beauvoir this weekend at the 32nd annual Fall Muster. If you didn’t know any better, you would think you were being taken back in time as you watched re-enactments of the Civil War happen right before your eyes.
For David Comardelle and Ken Buhler, it’s all about preserving the history behind the Confederate States of America. These two came from Louisiana to battle and to rough it out just like the real Civil War soldiers did. “Well, I love for the sounds of the canons going off and the history that goes behind the re-enactment,” said Comardelle.
Buhler said, “These guys here, they go back in time and they re-live as much as we can. It’s just trying to preserve our history.”
Along with many of the other history lovers at the muster, they believe if we ignore our history we are doomed to repeat it. Auxiliary Commander Chris Becker said, “I like doing it myself, but I also like the children coming in and looking around because when I was going through school is was all memorization of dates and events. Whereas something like this brings history alive for people.”
Beauvoir Board Chairman Marc Thompson said, “The first time anyone experiences a canon going off and you feel the concussions shake the ground and you can feel it hit in the body and you know the look on people’s faces, it’s priceless.”
All of these canons are reproductions of the originals, but they still have the same effect as the originals.
