Principal for a Day
Some unfamiliar faces to students at Ocean Springs Schools took the hallways as principal for a day.
Ocean Springs High School had Mississippi House of Representatives member and chair of the state education committee Robert Bennett as their principal for the day. He met with students, talked with administrators, and even got a chance to conduct the band.
Bennett says this day can be very beneficial to education by letting members of legislative delegation get a first-hand look at the day to day activities of Ocean Springs School District. “I think it’s a great opportunity for legislatures in general to see what goes on in the schools from the day to day operations and I think a lot of people don’t understand the stress, the pressure and the good things going on in the schools. I wish more legislatures had the opportunity to do this throughout the state,” said Bennett.
Ocean Springs has been holding the Principal for a Day event since 2015. They mostly try to get state level legislatures to these schools, but they have had city officials and others participate.
