Gulfport-Orange Grove Rotary Club donates dictionaries

The Gulfport-Orange Grove Rotary Club is back at it again, giving away dictionaries and advancing the education for third graders in the Harrison County School District.

Third graders at Lyman Elementary were chosen to receive the dictionaries because in order to be able to advance to the fourth grade, students must pass a state reading assessment. So, the Rotary Club thinks these books can be a key factor in helping them advance their reading level.

The Rotary Club has been giving out books to students all across Harrison County for many years and to them this community outreach is all about the smiles they put on the students faces. Rotary Club member Carolyn Ladner said, “A lot of students don’t have books and even though it’s a dictionary, it has a lot of information such as the presidents, states, math problems and solutions. A lot of kids just like to read them and that’s their very own book.”

This giveaway was just history repeating itself because just a month ago they were giving away dictionaries at Bel-Air Elementary.
