Ole Miss rallying behind DK Metcalf injury
On Monday, Ole Miss announced a season-ending neck injury to wide receiver DK Metcalf, who was pulled during the first quarter of Saturday’s 37-33 win at Arkansas.
The standout junior has been getting graded out as a first round talent for the 2019 NFL draft, but whether or not his stock stays that high as a result of impending surgery remains to be seen.
Head Coach Matt Luke says Metcalf will be fine in the long-term and that the team has already began to rally in the absence of one of the major components to the ‘nasty wide outs.’ “DK not being out there and Dawson and all the guys stepping up and making plays and it’s in the rain and you’re on the road and you’re down 17 and they just kept fighting and they kept competing. So just a proud, gutsy win that will give us some momentum going forward and now you’re coming home at 5-2 and to get some momentum and the crowd fired up about coming and playing another big game in Oxford. I think that’s what you’re most proud of is that you get the momentum going forward and these kids when they lay it all on the line, they get something back. They get to be happy, and they get to enjoy it together.”
Next up for the Rebels is a Saturday home game versus Auburn with kick-off set for 11 a.m. The Tigers have lost two in a row.
