Blessing of the Pets

They say all dogs go to heaven and it looks like they’ll be joined by a few cats, a goat, and birds.

Nativity BVM School in Biloxi held their annual Blessing of the Pets today. The ceremony coincides with the Feast Day of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals.

It’s a day when students come together, bringing their pets to school for a special blessing. This is an event that has become a favored tradition for teachers and students at the school.

McKinzy Lawson and Annabelle Tarrant each brought their dogs and one cat to receive the blessing today. “I just wanted to get her blessed because I care about her and stuff,” said McKinzy.

Annabelle said, “I also brought my dog. She’s over there somewhere with my sister. She loves other things like other humans and dogs and stuff. She’s enjoying her time sniffing everything.”

The blessing was lead this morning by Nativity BVM first graders.
