Cruise Central Gulfport
It is day two of this year’s Cruisin’ the Coast and already this annual car show is breaking records when it comes to attendance.
A stroll down memory lane Monday morning on day two of 2018’s Cruisin’ the Coast at Cruise Central in Gulfport. It’s not TV host Cristy Lee’s first time around the block. “It’s not my first time at Cruisin’ the Coast. I love coming down here every year. I’m from Florida originally. I live in Michigan now, so it’s always fun to come back to the Gulf Coast. And of course, this is the Gulf Coast’s biggest block party, so it’s such a fun event. I get to see a lot of familiar faces year after year, and of course, a lot of amazing cars.”
The Velocity TV show host is known for her skills when it comes to bikes and cars, but on this day she created the perfect photo opportunity for fans and some who have actually become friends over the years. “I do get to see so many friends and family, they’re like family to me, year after year. It’s nice to come back and see such nice patrons coming back to this event. Like me, year after year. It’s fun to touch up with them and find out what they’ve been working on their car projects and hear their stories too.”
Delisle resident Mary Maynard seized the opportunity to take a photo with Cristy Lee and show off her 1939 Plymouth. It’s not her first time around the block either or the first vintage car she’s had on display here. Maynard says she has plenty of reason for returning each year. “Seeing all the cars and the people. I wish they’d dress out more.”
So how does the Coast’s biggest block party stack up next to other antique and vintage car shows throughout the nation? We put this question to Cristy Lee. She said, “There’s no comparison with Cruisin’ the Coast. It’s huge first of all. There’s thousands of people, thousands of cars. I mean it’s a spread of over 20 miles over the Gulf Coast area. Most of the car events I go to, they are located in one spot or one event area or maybe just one parking lot, but this is a huge spread, and that’s why I love it.”
