Ole Miss WR corps point of emphasis for LSU Saturday
Today, CBS Sports released a list of the top 20 NFL prospects and Ole Miss wide receivers AJ Brown and DK Metcalf are both on it. But the ‘nasty wide outs’ already had LSU’s attention a long time ago.
It’s the focal point of Saturday’s matchup between the Rebels and the fifth ranked Tigers with the latter having held the future first-rounders to a combined five receptions for 54 yards last year.
But through four games this season, the ‘NWO’ tandem is on another level, pairing for 54 percent of the team’s catches and yards as well as seven out of the 10 touchdowns.
Meanwhile, LSU is second in the SEC with six interceptions. LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron said, “This is going to test us, this is going to test us. Let me say this again, I think I told you this last week. Louisiana Tech had some very good wide receivers, for sure. And, and the quarterback was a little bit better than we planned on him being, we didn’t get a rush. We’re going to have to get a rush, Ta’Amu is a better drop-back passer than we’ve seen, and these guys are first-round draft picks, legit. So we’re going to be tested, we’re going to have to mix things up but it all starts with the pressure up front. We have to get pressure up front.”
Ole Miss Head Coach Matt Luke said, “Very, very good defensively. Very good on all three levels of defense, they’re good up front, really good linebackers, very, very long, good in the secondary so they’re a very, very good defense. So I think you’ve got to be very, very smart with the football, we have to protect the football, we need some high percentage throws so we can get on schedule and get the rhythm that we need offensively.”
The Tiger’s won last year’s meeting 40-24 in Ed Orgeron’s return to Ole Miss. Saturday’s game will kick-off at 8:15 p.m. from Death Valley.
