Fatal shooting on 57th Street in Gulfport

One man is dead after a shooting on 57^th Avenue in Gulfport.

According to Gulfport police they received a call that shots had been fired at 4:42 p.m. in the 3000 block. When units arrived on scene they found a young African-American man dead in the street.

Neighbor tells News 25 they saw a Ford F-150 speed off shortly after the shooting happened. Neighbor who lives six houses down from the location of the shooting says her daughter heard the shots first. Neighbor Sophia Slater said, “Well, we just heard like six or seven gun shots loud. She ran in the kitchen. I was helping my son with his homework and she was scared so I told her it was probably gunshots, just somebody testing their gun, but then we walked outside and someone was on the ground up the street. It was awful. It was daylight, a young person, a human being was laying on the ground. We were scared.”
