Child passenger safety checks

September is Child Passenger Safety Month and Safe Kids Gulf Coast partnered with other organizations to offer a free car safety check to Biloxi area residents.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Graco helped with this event.

For three hours, child safety passenger technicians demonstrated proper car seat installations, answered questions from parents, and shared valuable tips that could help save a child’s life. Family Health Services Specialist Lywanda White said, “When we have events like this, normally you don’t see as much coverage. It’s so important that our community understands that safe children, driving safe, and being safe. Our kids are our future. So, anything that comes about with our kids, everybody needs to take on because it is a community effort.”

Reports show 73 percent of car seats are not used or installed correctly.
