Swim in for Autism
This Sunday, the sixth annual ‘Swim in for Autism’ will allow children on the spectrum from all over the Coast to have a splashing good time.
All South Mississippi children with autism are welcome to dive into this family fun event. The Mississippi Center for Autism puts on this swim in to give families and those with autism a chance to relax and not have to think about some of the stress and pressure.
This event has grown every year and they are expecting 70 children on Sunday.
Swimming is the activity of choice because it can have many benefits to a child with autism. Mississippi Center for Autism Director Wayne Williams said, “A lot of children with autism have sensory types of issues where they are far more sensitive to their environment than we are and so getting into the water and swimming around alleviates those types of issues and the children really enjoy it.”
If you would like to join in on the fun, the swim in starts at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Mississippi Coast YMCA in Ocean Springs.
