Questions About Your Health Care Needs? Check out the First Ever Gulf Coast Public Health Summit

Advocates and educators from throughout the southeastern United States will be joining up Oct. 17 and 18 at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jeff Davis Campus in Gulfport for the first ever Gulf Coast Public Health Summit, hosted by the Renaissance Development Corporation.

The Gulf Coast Public Health Summit is the only event of its kind to take place on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is comprised of a network of organizations, agencies, champions and communities that all work to eliminate health disparities along the gulf coast, especially in the underserved communities.

Advocates and educators from across the U.S. will take part in this summit to share experiences and offer insight that will help communities navigate through the many public health, health equity, environmental and social justice issues that continuously affect the well-being of thousands residing in the Gulf Coast Region, including Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.

This year’s theme, “Human Trafficking,” will educate attendees on the fastest-growing and second largest criminal enterprise in the world. The keynote speaker is Sunnetta “Sunny” Slaughter, the CEO and Principal of Sunny Slaughter, LLC.

Topics addressing public health as it pertains to policy development, organ donation, ethics and compliance, will be addressed, in addition to addressing health inequities such as access to resources and information.
