Enviva is officially coming to Stone County

Enviva has a new home. The large sustainable wood company specializing in making wood pellets is coming to Stone County.

The highly anticipated announcement came this morning during an event at the Stone County Courthouse attended by Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, community members, and representatives from Enviva.

Enviva is officially coming to Stone County. Governor Tate Reeves was on-hand at the Stone County Courthouse to announce the $250 million investment, a project more than a year in the making. Gov. Reeves said, “What a great day for all of Mississippi but particularly Stone County. They’re going to create 100 jobs which is going to lead to 350 jobs. This is a big, big deal for South Mississippi. We’re so excited we’re seeing this. Our economy is on fire and the reason our economy is on fire is because of our people and because of great relationships with companies like Enviva.”

Governor Reeves says jobs with the large sustainable wood company are going to pay 70 percent higher than the county average.

Enviva has seen push back from some locals due to the site’s proximity to a residential area. Enviva Chairman and CEO John Keppler explains why Stone County was chosen for the location. “The people of Stone County, all the work we’ve done here- some of the most remarkable work force in the entire nation. We’re really excited about bringing not just jobs but careers and long-term development.”

The plant will generate more than $1 million in taxes per year for the county and school district. Governor Reeves says this a great opportunity for Mississippians. “Almost 10 years ago the state and Enviva partnered on a facility they built at the Port of Pascagoula, when this product is finished at this plant here in Stone County- they’re going to send it to Pascagoula and then they are going to use their facility to ship it all over the world. These are Mississippians making this opportunity available.”

The facility site is located directly off Highway 49 in Bond.
