Expedited Stadium Construction
Construction of MGM Park continues today as the seats are being installed among other installations that need to be completed in order to move up opening day. The Biloxi City Council approved an amendment today that would help speed up the construction process and possibly avoid fees associated with the park. Acting Mayor Kenny Glavan called the amendment a “win-win”.
“Basically what we’ve done is we’ve taken some major components that the baseball team has agreed to and we put a due date on it of June 1st. If they don’t complete those major components by June 1st, all the liquidated damages and fees from missing a game are waived.”
Last week, the team agreed to pitch in the 1 million dollars needed to cover the expenses of essentials, such as video boards and the audio system. Tim Bennet, the co-owner of the Biloxi Shuckers said “we’re willing to put money where our mouth is so to speak by putting up nearly a million dollars to help expedite stadium construction and hopefully that will get us in sooner. The sooner we get in the quicker that ten thousand dollar penalty goes away”.
The non-essential work, such as painting the suites and installing railings will have a deadline of July 1st.
