New developments for Biloxi

The end of the fiscal year for the City of Biloxi is months away and the mayor and city council are already talking about projects for next year. Today, the city council voted to get the ball rolling on a new program called ‘Coding Academy.’

The program would accept around 20 students from the Biloxi area to attend the 11 month program. Companies on the Coast that are in need of coders would be involved which would grant jobs to those attending the academy. Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich said, “It gives us the ability to establish a system if you will. You go through this intense program for about 11 months, graduate and do those things then you have a job ready to go, a high paying job with a future.”

The council also voted to looking into starting an incentive program to increase housing in the downtown and east Biloxi areas. This is all connected to the Downtown Revitalization Project along with the East Biloxi Infrastructure Project.
