A breach in the roof causes serve flooding at Humane Society

This afternoon, a breach in the roof of the Humane Society of South Mississippi in Gulfport caused severe flooding inside the building.

At about 1 p.m., the staff at the Humane Society was first alerted of flooding inside a bathroom. They then witnessed multiple tiles on their roof collapse as a result of the heavy rainfall. Katie King with the Humane Society says the flooding came in as a domino effect and impacted every department in the shelter.

The Humane Society of South Mississippi closed their doors early today in order to assess the damages. “Right now we are in desperate need of shop vac, towels, squeegees, tarps, as I think it’s going to continue to rain. Definitely monetary donations are always greatly appreciated. They can donate by visiting the website at HSSM.org or go into our donate today page and that will definitely help us get back on track,” said King.

King says this sort of flooding has never been experienced at the shelter in the past. She says you can stay up to date with their business hours following the flooding through their Facebook page.
