Mississippi State interim coach named Coach of the Year
On paper, the Mississippi State baseball program wasn’t supposed to get to Omaha.
Less than a week into the season, the Bulldogs lost head Coach Andy Cannizaro, paving the way for Gary Henderson to work a miracle.
On February 21st, he was elevated from assistant to interim head man and on June 13th, he was named Coach of the Year by Perfect Game and Rawlings, a well-deserved honor to say the least for leading MSU to its tenth College World Series in program history.
The end result is a 10-1 record against top five teams, the first team in the history of college baseball to win back-to-back regionals after losing both opening games and perhaps the most memorable Super Regional victory ever.
