Harrison County 4H Club Horse Show

There was no horsing around at the district 4H Horse Show this afternoon, the 4H Club’s big end-of-the-year event.

Some young people spend the start of summer behind a computer screen and others, well, they saddle up, rope ‘em up and hit the dirt of an outdoor arena.  In fact, not even their four-legged friends could drag them away, it’s all about what they love to do. 4H Rider Jacob Konrad said, “It’s just in my blood. We’ve always been riding. Wherever we move and live we just always have horses to ride.”

Konrad was among those saddled up for day one of the district horse show put on by the Harrison County 4H Club. He and these other 4Hers will be trying to get a leg up on the competition here so they can land a spot in the state competition two weeks from now. Harrison County 4H Club Leader Sandra Konrad said, “This will be one of our biggest days because the kids like to go fast and run speed events and there will be a much larger showing at the state show.”

The 4H Club of Harrison County tries to teach these kids leadership and a love for riding through activities and local shows such as this one. “We as a club focus on horse activities so we do riding programs. We do educational programs, anything that is about horses is what we are teaching the children.”

That’s just what will be going on under the Harrison County Fairgrounds Arena as all these young people try their hand at stocks events such as roping cows, goat-tying, and speed events.
