Funeral Services for Blayze Broadus
Pascagoula mourns the loss of 17-year-old Blayze Broadus and 17-year-old Jonathan McCommon who died in a fatal car crash Friday night.
Today, the city honors Blayze at Arlington Baptist Church.
Blayze Broadus and Jonathan McCommon were heading into their senior year at Pascagoula High School. They were heavily involved within the city with sports and youth groups. The boys died too soon after a car accident this weekend in Pascagoula. Pascagoula/Gautier School District CTE Counselor Derek Reed said, “We have these students who are threads in the community and you look forward to them going off and doing things, coming back and taking the community forward. When a life like this is taken, it’s just a shock to everyone.”
Before the funeral service for Blayze Broadus, Blayze’s best friend, Alex Cochran, walked into Arlington Baptist Church and took a trip down memory lane. “We would just ride around and have fun man. Just have a good time riding and seeing our friends. We would love to hang out. Anytime with him was a good time.”
Friends and classmates of Blayze described him as chill and easy-going. When life got tough, he knew how to remain calm. Friend Courtney Charbonnet said, “Chill is the best way to describe Blayze. Anything could happen and he would just calm you down, so calm and collected. The perfect word is chill.”
“He seemed quiet when you approached him. Once you started talking with him he was open and willing to talk. He was just an awesome young man,” said Reed.
Blayze loved hunting and fishing. He will be remembered for his ability to get along with anyone around him. “Somebody who treated everybody equally. Somebody who I think was just misunderstood a lot of times,” said Cochran.
Charbonnet said, “I love you. Couldn’t tell him enough.”
Jonathan McCommon’s funeral service will take place at Arlington Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
